Dark Room: About Long Exposure

A while ago I've been pretty obsessed with long exposure. This man is a master at it. A Russian photographer based in New York, Alexey Titarenko.

It seems to me that people are just there to fill the space, to complete it. Because the Earth is primary, not people. Humans are just one form of creatures inhabiting that space. We are giving ourselves more attention and importance than we deserve.

Wallpaper: Night Sky Candle

Warning! I'm so bored I'm trying some DIY. Those things always look so cool and simple, but when you're finished it's not as half as cool. But maybe you're better in this then I am, and your Night Sky works out just terrific.

How to make it:
Draw a town with interesting skyline. It doesn't have to be brilliant, just a sketch. Then find thick paper and place it under the drawing. Be careful: mine was not thick enough which caused some problems like shape deformation and tearing, but it should be thin enough to let you pierce a needle through it. Then just follow the skyline with the needle.

Make holes in the "sky" too. My paper was too thin so very close skyline holes where not good. The paper tore. I fixed it with scotch tape (on what I decided to be the inner side). The point is: use thin paper, or don't make holes so close together.

This is how it looks like at this stage (left-the inner side, right-the outside):

Then find a candle with big flame and measure your paper according to it. The "stars" should be in level but far enough from the flame. Cut it and link the ends with scotch tape.

Place the candle inside and... that's it!
Mine's fine. It looks nice in the dark, but you can tell it's DIY. I hope you'll do better.

All photos are mine.

I'm not ready yet for obligations and early mornings, but I'm looking forward to colder weather, lectures and seasonal food.
Summer is still my favorite season.

Gallery: Space Bugs

Julie Alice Chappell makes insects using circuit boards. Wings are attached to bodies made of old computers and video games systems. The series' title is 'Computer Component Bugs'. How absolutely beautiful!

This is so-called environmental art. By her miniature sculptures the artist wants to raise awareness of environmental waste.
"The recycled bits of cultural refuse that are woven throughout my work represent a direct encounter with the excesses of modern living highlighting the dangers of planned obsolescence and e-waste in the environment. The work displays an aesthetic beauty whilst offering a socio-political discourse, attempting to reclaim waste and the destruction of the natural world, in the beauty of visual art."
