Dark Room: Ravens

The shooting I wrote about. First of all, I don't like posting my own face on the internet, but I'm not comfortable working with models ether. So here's my face. Great. I'll get over it. I'm posting portraits today and leaving the main part for the next post.

This is not a part of the concept I was going for. It happened accidentally. During the shooting I noticed the lightning is just beautiful when I'm standing close to it. "Oh look, my face looks oddly good. Let's try another pose." Anyway... Stay tuned for the second part!

Bookmark: I Prefer Pictures

Yes, I prefer pictures over words. I recommend this girl's blog coz the photos are just awesome. Styleynn .
It's a fashion blog by a girl from Portland. Her style is, as she writes, timeless. It's a mix of retro, classy, tomboy and casual. Interesting. Anyway, the point is in the photos. They just simply drag you into her world.

Dark Room: Dead Or Alive

You know in what kind of mood I am lately. This set by Flickr user Sumyko I entitled 'Dead Or Alive' coz, in my opinion, the photos represent people who are somehow messed up, dead inside. See for yourself.

B&w. Double exposures. Perfect.

Cro: British Rock In The Croatian Way

Oh wow, it's been a while since I wrote about perspective Croatian bands. I'm referring to this post about The Bambi Molesters. Actually, that was the ONLY post about perspective Croatian bands. And we have more than one.
This is the second post! :-)

Jonathan is a band from Rijeka. They exist since 2013 and have released one LP 'Bliss' and one maxi single 'Getting Closer Is Keeping Us Apart' since. They became an instant hit among indie music lovers, which is not very common in Croatia. Their touring schedule is getting more and more full. Why are they so interesting?

(Source: scuzz.co)

First of all, they sing in English. They sound like a British indie band (though the accent discloses them). And in case you don't know anything about the band and their members, it's not likely you'll automatically assume they're from this country. So when you find that out, you're astonished and proud.
Then, their songs and the whole actual concept are wonderful. Different song structures, layering, energy, sarcastic lyrics. Also, everything they do has a meaning (that's my weakness, I admit it). The name, the cover art... :
"The band's name reflects this idea of unity, Jonathan being a metaphorical single person with a blend of character traits and whimsies from each." (www.jonathanband.com)
"The album artwork is purposely “human” hand-painted (...). It represents our refusal to conform, or to believe that the way of living, thinking, and feeling about ourselves and the world, the one that’s served to us everywhere and everyday (presented by Microsoft, the global giant and dogma of our times) is the only truth and the best way to live. In fact it is far from it. Many times it’s the worst path you can choose. The X in the corner is saying that there is a way out, there is a right and a power to refuse, the right to shut it down." (scuzz.co)
To see the cover go listen to their awesome album!

Dark Room: Gothic-Inspired

I'm inspired by everything dark and gothic lately. I even did a gothic-inspired shooting the other day (I'll post it soon, can't wait to show it to you). So here's a little dark set by photographer Zewar Fadhil.

Gallery: Wrapped

Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and Jeanne-Claudo Marie Denat are a couple. They also make cool art projects, like 'Wrapped Trees' and 'Surrounded Islands'.

It's all about wrapping. For 'Wrapped Trees' in Switzerland, they wrapped 178 trees with woven polyester fabric. It is normally used every winter in Japan to protect trees from frost and heavy snow.
So, nature is a part of the sculptures. The branches create volume and shadows, the wind creates moving and new shapes.

'Surrounded Islands' is their best known project. Eleven islands near Miami were surrounded with 603,870 square meters of floating pink woven polypropylene fabric.
Again, the pink color of the shiny fabric was in harmony with the tropical vegetation of the uninhabited verdant islands, the light of the sky and the colors of the shallow waters of the bay.

Dark Room: Spirits In The Water

This is my favorite recent photo session. I experimented with ink and water. I'm very pleased with the results.

I wanted to create hot & cold version of these "spirits". So I used negatives for the hot part.

What do you think?
