Rec: Experiencing Timelapse

Timelapse is a photography tehnique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured is much lower than that used to view the film. So when playing on normal speed, time appears to be moving faster. Just on Vimeo you will find thousands of timelapses. I spent hours watching them, and here I want to share the most unique ones.

'Ascendance' by Henry Jun Wah Lee for Evosia Studios:

(links to the official web-sites where you can read all info about the videos-it's very interesting; also the photo sources)

Shot in Joshua Tree National Park, you'll expirience clouds, rainbows, stars, meteors and lightning. Nature is wonderful.

'Adrift' by Simon Christen:

The mesmerising fog gliding through the San Francisco Bay. Totally surreal.

'Mirror City' by Michael Shainblum:

(for info click on the Vimeo logo on the video-it will lead you to Vimeo site where you can read the author's notes)

An abstract combination of timelapse and kaleidoscope, giving the great American cities a new dimension. Very artistic.

(Printscreened)
It took a lot of patience and persistence to create these videos. For example, for the second one it took 2 years (read the info!). And you can also look at the photos on the web-sites. That night sky is beautiful, right?

Cro: Zigman's Playful Habiliment

I don't follow fashion shows and designers coz I can't afford their creations, and street brands always copy newest runway trends so I'm not uninformed. Still, when I randomly find a creation that I like, I do take a look at the whole collection. And some of designers I do prefer, like Elie Saab and Vivienne Westwood. The only Croatian designer I generally like is Juraj Žigman. His work is creative, playful and unique but still wearable as seperate pieces.

Except designing for his brand 'ZIGMAN', the designer cooperated with Nivea cosmetics, 'Story' magazine, Marli wristwatches, Jadran socks, theatres, Peko footwear etc. His shoes for Peko are my favourites.

His last collection f/w 2013 is pretty amazing. It's an interesting mix of grunge and baroque I'd say.

Runway: My Latest Treats

My first treat is mom's teen notebook. She found it in my grandmother's flat. It contains clippings about girl problems, fashion and decor. Also, I found pressed flowers and notes from her friends between the pages. So cute.

Love those hairstyles and green-eyed ladies.

The second treat is 'Decades Of Fashion'. It's a book by 'Getty Images' about history of 20th century fashion. I found it on a book fair last week (and paid 70% less, though it wasn't that expensive anyway). It has 780 pages, of which about 770 contain a photo. Superb images!

Each image is explained in detail and very clearly. I already feel I know more about 1900-s (I've just finished the first chapter). It's fascinating, for example, how ladies put up with corsets to make their waist ultra-thin and wore special underwear to avoid ripping their ultra-tight dresses in which they couldn't walk properly. Oh and those outfits for sports, long skirt and large straw hat for tennis, my goodness!
Enjoy the snippets!

Dark Room: Still Schizo

This is sort of a continuation of the previous post. Photos by Charles Bergquist are designed to hurt your eyes sweetly. They remind me of sci-fi movies about UFOs and other planets.

Gallery: Schizo

I love everything schizo and psychedelic lately. In my search for artists who make that kind of images I came across Karborn. He creates images and videos. Here's how he introduces himself:
"A prototype young artist of the future-technoid, paradisiacal, neuromantic – an integration of intelligence and an instinctive engagement with visual arts, music, film and machines – informed by his vision of the clarity, beauty and geometry of the real world."
Impressive way of thinking. His work is impressive too.

About the process:
"Created & manipulated on Amiga 1200's and fed through a series of scan converters, VHS formats and Wobulators to Sony Trinitron broadcast monitors. The output is then photographed with film & digital cameras."

Find everything on his site: KARBORN
Tumblr blog: KARBORN

All images from 'Evidence of Time Travel' and 'Evidence of Time Travel II' series.

Also, do not miss to see his videos. Here are direct links to my favourites on Vimeo:
Zomby-Riding With Death-play of light (and a gorgeous girl)
John Foxx & Jori Hulkkonen-Strictly-intriguing music video
Bipolar Sunshine-Drowning Butterflies-great video snippets following the lyrics
Cathedral Oceans-no words for this one, just watch the magic
Burial/Thom Yorke/Four Tet-Ego-relaxing video with beautiful effects and music for the end (not schizo at all)

Walkman: Inessential Music Facts

This is a random post about how I like stupid games like '30 days music challenge' or 'Top 20 pictures of your favourite actor' (you can participate on Tumblr). I do it for fun and I never post them though. Today I am-well not bored coz I have to study, but-exhausted, so I'll post a challenge with some interesting tasks for fun.

1. A song you have seen performed live: 'Stay' by Hurts - twice; the first time was one of my favourite concert moments ever

2. A song from a CD you actually own: 'Jesus Walks' by Kanye West - it's from a hip-hop compilation CD; that was the first ever CD I bought

3. A song your parents played on road trips when you were young: 'Like A Prayer' by Madonna - my dad's favourite album for trips; I stole it and now it's mine hehe

4. A song that you love to work-out to: 'Let's Get It Started' by The Black Eyed Peas - from the time when I loved them; always makes me move

5. A song you can fall asleep to: 'Hold On To Me' by Placebo - I literally play it every night when I'm in my bed before I turn the audio player off; it's relaxing and relieving

6. An essential karaoke song: 'Hot'n'Cold' by Katy Perry - yup, that's the one I'd sing; it's not demanding and it's fun and cheerful

7. A song that has the best screaming in it: 'Given Up' by Linkin Park - 2:26-2:43; I thought that's the best screaming part already in primary school

8. A song that reminds you of summer: 'Island In The Sun' by Weezer - the best summer song; I hear it and I'm there

9. A song you like from a movie soundtrack: 'Blow' by Ghinzu - from one of the best movie scenes ever ('Ex-Drummer'); it's seriously addicting and I know it's long but please listen to the whole song

10. The first song that shows up on shuffle: 'Night Time' by The xx - very beautiful; all songs by The xx are beautiful

That was fun. Now back to studying.

Runway: Sweet Pin-Up

I feel like looking retro today, so I'll try to do my hair similar to this:

(Credits: Emily Dahl)
I think that pin-up style is so sweet! Well, sweet and sexy at the same time. Depends how you style it. Today I'll stick to sweet. Here are some ideas:

(Please click to enlarge)
Dresses, heels and lipstick. But it doesn't have to be all about dresses! I made an outfit with pants on Polyvore. Add the hairstyle from the first picture and voila:

Do you like the idea?

Wallpaper: 31 Rue Cambon

Coco Chanel's apartment in Paris at 31 Rue Cambon is splendid. The Chanel shop is at the street level, dressing rooms on the second, Coco's apartment is on the third, and her personal workshop was on the fourth.

The apartment is inspired by Oriental style. She believed in the healing power of crystal, hence the chandeliers in every room, and lions refer to her Leo star sign. Much of the furniture was custom-made of amended according to the designer's directives. The sofa on the first picture was designed by her.

(Source: http://pursuitist.com/inside-coco-chanels-paris-flat-at-31-rue-cambon/)
The apartment is entered via a sweeping spiral staircase with Art Deco panels of mirrors running along the walls. Coco would watch the audience's reaction to her designs during shows-it was the only place she could see them, but they could not see her. Sophisticated woman.
