Rec: Storytelling

Music videos for "Line of Fire" and "Your Life Your Call" by Junip.

I'm amazed by these videos. Look at the effects of faltering *.* I also like the ambience (the house and the light), the music obviously and-the most important-the story. A lot of people find the videos creppy, but I find them obscure and intrguing rather than creepy. And the clever symbolism, I looove that! If you don't understand what's going on read the comments from You Tube by sugarpeepsez (I think this interpretation is very good, but of course maybe yours is even better):
"It uses very few symbols if you look closely, but they repeat. Hair, for instance, is emphasized-we see his wife blow-drying her very blond long hair-the hair moves in the dryer's wind as she turns it back and forth, over and over. The sister's similar hair is pointed out by having the fan's wind move it over and over, too." "Also helpful to note how the camera is used-framing, close-up, how long the shot is static. Close-up means: pay attention to this! If the camera lingers in one position, it also wants you to stop and look carefully. When two big items are in frame and each takes up half, like the couple at the bathroom sink, it is comparing and contrasting the items-are they they same in some way?" "Part 1-middle aged man lays in bed thinking about how, in the very religious household of his youth, his sister once seduced him, and his father never knew. The wife is thinking about how the husband looked when she first met him, and when they have sex, she is thinking of his younger self, still in braces. The husband had first been attracted to her because her hair reminded him of his sister's hair." "Part 2-to break free of the secret of his childhood, he needs to get rid of his sin with his sister, and he chooses firing lit hairspray at her hair (and his wife's hair, a continuation of his desire for his sister) as a symbol of this. No one is actually getting killed, the visuals and music are about his decision to free himself of his guilt and his unhappy marriage. At the end, his teen and mature selves are together in the sauna; he took himself back from his wife/sister."
